The launch is in full swing so we thought we’d tell you how its going so far…

We’ve had speeches, wine, nibbles and even a spot of MCing from the local Youth Hub group.

One of our journalists, Johana, has revealed her talents as an amazing violinist and is right this minute performing with her band ‘Borris’ – they’re brilliant!

Photos coming soon… but for now we are back to the party.

With less than 24 hours to go until the big launch, it’s been a pretty frantic day for the whole team at the Atrium.

The day started early, with Arielle busy arranging posters around the building while Rob put the finishing touches on the site’s design.  Meanwhile, Hannah finished off her piece about the Clifton Street one-way system, and Chris and Jo spent much time doing so many run-of-the-mill jobs that I lost track of exactly what they were doing at any one time.

Nick and Shanshan were out in Adamsdown finding new stories for us, and as for me?  As well as helping with the site’s design and this new blog, I took the time to do a little publicity.  Both Jo and Chris agreed to spend a few minutes being interviewed for the show I present on Tequila Radio – if you couldn’t catch it, the finished piece will also be available on the main website.

Tomorrow should be a really great day, and with the band, DJs, wine and nibbles we mustn’t forget the whole purpose of the night – to serve the community of Adamsdown.  That said, the new T-shirts for the team are very exciting!

Anyway, mustn’t stay up all night blogging, as we need to be awake for the big launch tomorrow.  Goodnight all!

We have been working hard on this project in partnership with Glamorgan University and the Adamsdown community since January, and it’s great to see our efforts go live online to share with you.

During the past few months we have all taken great pleasure in making links with the local community, and have enjoyed a warm welcome from both residents and traders in the area. For this we would like to extend a big thank you to all who have contributed to the stuff on the site to date, and would like to invite everyone to get involved during the coming month with stories and ideas about your slice of life in Cardiff.

As this is our first blog it is only appropriate that we introduce ourselves. We are a rather eclectic bunch, comprising trainee journalists and radio production students, lecturers and professionals of all ages and all with a variety of interests. Why not visit the ‘meet the team’ page to find out more about us.

All the best things in life are stumbled upon, so there is no user-guide or manual for Adamsdownhere.co.uk. So far we have tried to include a variety of content ranging from current news and goings on, to the interesting history of Adamsdown, local profiles and even some fictional drama. Let us know if there’s anything exciting we are missing out on, we’d love to hear from you.

This seems like a great opportunity to tell you a bit about the project itself. The idea for Adamsdownhere.co.uk was born from Glamorgan Uni’s desire to forge links with the local community.

diana_brandDiana Brand, the project’s co-ordinator said: “This project is an exciting opportunity for our students to get to know the area really well whilst providing a service to the community.

“We hope that lots of people who live in Adamsdown will contact us with pictures and stories about themselves and the things that are going on around them.”

Enough from us for now, but check back soon as the ‘Ads-Up blog’ will be updated regularly with insider info from us at base camp and even some guest bloggers. Watch this space!

Time to tuck in and enjoy your first serving of Adamsdownhere.co.uk
